New Year Cake

The New Year Cake, or Niangao in Chinese, is another popular food eaten by the Chinese when they spend the Spring Festival.
It is made of glutinous rice or millet flour and garnished with various ausiliary materials such bean or jujube paste, assorted fruits, assorted preserves and so on. The cake is divided into two categories the yellow one, symbolizing gold, and the white one, symbolizing silver, both representing fortune.
Chinese people eat Niangao also it’s another meaning of good luck. Niangao in Chinese literally means everything is higher than the last year. For the children, they will grow taller and become more mature by eating it. For the adults, eating it signifies they will get higher position in their working careers. Of curse, this is just to embody wishes of the Chinese in a new year.
