Known as the north gateway of Beijing, Yanqing is 74 kilometers northwest of it, bordering with Huairou county in the east, Changping county in the south, Huailai county in the west and Chicheng county in the north.
Yanqing is a kind of continental monsoon climate. The annual average temperature and rainfall is 8℃ and 494 mm separately. It is cold in winter and cool in summer. The temperature of the hottest month is even lower 0.8℃ than Chengde, which makes it a famous summer resort enjoying the "Xiadu" prestige.
Yanqing Basin is surrounded by mountains on three sides with the other side facing a lake-Guanting Lake. Longqing Gorge, Magic Wild Mountain Gorge, Yudu Mountain are all famous scenic spots in Yanqing. Haituo Mountain, which is 2,241 meters, is the highest mountain in Yanqing and the second in Beijing. Yanqing is rich in tourism resources. There are many kinds of wild animals and plants in Yanqing and plenty of rare and precious birds and animal and wild Chinese medicinal materials.
