Mt Qingcheng is closely related with the rise and development of Taoism in China. As early as in the 2nd century, namely the East Han Dynasty, Zhang Dao-ling founded “Five Decaliters of Grain cult”, or “Heaven Master cult”, based on “the philosophy of Yellow Emperor and Lao Zi” with “Tao Te Ching” as the holy book, in Singing Crane Mountain of Dayi County. Since the formal start of Taoism in Sichuan Province, Mt Qingcheng was he headstream of Heaven Master cult, and the holy land where the founding master Zhang Dao-ling cultivated himself and preached the doctrines. Mt Qingcheng is the fifth of the ten “grotto heavens” recognized by Taoism in China.
Dujiang Weir or Dujjiangyan Irrigation System was constructed in 227 BC by Li Bing, governor of Shu Prefecture, over 2,200 years ago. It is not only the earliest water control project in China, but also the only and the oldest remain of such in the whole world. Characterized in its successful control of water without any blocking dam, Dujiang Weir is a milestone in the history of technology in China.
In December of 2000, both Mt Qingcheng and Dujiang Weir were inscribed by UNESCO in World Heritage List as cultural heritages of human world.
