The Forbidden City seats in the heart of Beijing. Golden, majestic and the most intact in China and in the world, it symmetrically follows a north-south axis, very planned and mighty, and is a splendid carrier of China’s long tradition as well as a spokesman of Chinese architecture over 500 years ago. Forbidden City was inscribed as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO.
The buildings in the Forbidden City are arranged symmetrically. Along the central axis are three big halls, namely, the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Complete Harmony and the Hall of Preserving Harmony. Behind the three big halls lay the living quarters of the imperial family, which consist mainly of the Palace of Heavenly Purity, the Palace of Earthly Tranquility, the Hall of Union and Peace, and six eastern halls and six western halls.
Seat of supreme for five centuries, the Forbidden City, with its landscaped gardens and many buildings, constitutes a priceless testimony to Chinese civilization during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
