The view of sunrise is the most spectacular at the summit of Mt Taishan, and a distinctive attraction of the mountain as well. With the first auroral stream of the rising sun, the dark sky gradually turns milky, rosy and finally brilliant golden spurting sunlight, then the flaming sun bobs out over the horizon.
Jade Plate of Cloud Sea:
This is another wonder of Mt Taishan, lovingly referred to as “Jade Plate of Cloud Sea”. In summer after a shower, vapor rolls up in massive volumes when the warm air from the ocean is confined at the altitude of about 1,5000m. Then, if there is no wind, a vast expanse of white cloud would form, flat as a huge jade plate suspending between the sky and the earth.
Pure Rime:
When rime forms, the buildings seem to be in a white veil, and the land is covered with a soft carpet of pure white. Tree branches and grass blades are bent with downy ice, like big crystal trees of coral. When rain rime forms, on the other hand, a clear icy layer covers up the rocks, the land, the roofs, the trees, and the grass, freezing everything suddenly into a world of ice.
Buddha’s Halo:
In a foggy moring or evering from a high position, it is possible to see a colorful ring on the faint foggy background in the direction of the sunlight. In the ring, blue inside and red outside, is the full of half figure of the viewer, exactly like the colorful halo of a Buddha, thus it is called “Buddha’s Halo” or “Holy Halo”.
