Inner Mongolia is located in the north of China, both the daily life and economic development there rely on its livestock industry. Consequently, the groom is supposed to give some livestock to his bride’s family as the betrothal present, and the least amount of livestock is nine, which means longevity and eternal. As for the bride, her family is supposed to give dowry of the equivalent value of the betrothal present. In most cases, the bride’s dowry costs more than that of the betrothal present. As a Mongol saying goes: “it is more expensive to marry a husband than marry a wife.”
