Situated in Huayin County, Mt. Huashan is some 120 kilometers east of Xian City in Shanxi Province. It is the Western Mountain of the Five Sacred Mountains and the fourth grotto heaven among the thirty-six grotto heavens in Daoism. The highest peak is 2200-metre above sea level.
Mt. Hua is mostly famous for its Taoism culture. The famous Taoists like Zhong Liquan, Lu Yan, Liu Chao, Wang Chuyi, Hao Datong, Tan Chuduan once lived here. At present, there are Temple of the West Marchmount, Jade Spring Temple at the base, as well as Eastern Temple, Guardian Temple, Jade Lady Shrine and Green Cloud Temple, which are all on the mountain. The most ancient of the temples is the Temple of the West Marchmount, the historical record indicating that it was built at the time of Wu emperor Han. Temple of the West Marchmount, Jade Spring Temple and Eastern Temple are nationally significant temples.
This mountain is celebrated for its majestic breath-taking crags, steep paths, beautiful scenery and it is said to be the most precipitous mountain in the world.
