The work of painting the biggest Buddha in China has finished at Bolin Temple, a place for Buddhist activities in ancient times, at Zhaozhou Country, Hebei Province. The painted image of Buddha is the biggest Buddha picture among China with a height of 2,500 centimeters and a width of 1,750 centimeters, according to the Buddhism Association of Hebei Province.
The year of 2006 is the 2500th year in Buddhist calendar. In order to commemorate this integer year in Buddhist way counting years, the Zhendan Buddhism Art Research Institute, subjected to the Buddhism Association of Hebei Province, has planed to paint a huge Sakyamuni picture with 2,500-centimeter at the beginning of this year. This big Sakyamuni image describes Sakyamuni’s Buddha hood.
Painting a 2,500-centimeter Buddha image at the 2,500 Buddhist -year has special meanings. The most important meaning is that it drives the work of researching Buddhist art and stimulates the interests among non-Buddhism-believers.
