According to the Cultural Relic Bureau of Qinghai Province, the ancient hand-write copy of the Koran in China will be restored in a short time. The National Cultural Relic Bureau agrees to sponsor 44,000 RMB to the Koran restoration.
This ancient hand writing now is preserved in the Jiezi Mosque, Qinghai Province. Having 30 rolls with a total of 681 pages, it consists with two books, both having a cover made of rhinoceros’ fur. In November 2004, experts from National Cultural Relic Bureau and National Religion Affair Bureau evaluated this hand-write copy of the Koran as the oldest one in China since they identified it was written early than 13th century.
However, because it is not being good protected, the Koran is destroyed badly by weathering, and it is at the risk of decaying. This ancient the Koran is very important to the Islam believers in China. After its restoration, this book will be put in a transparent safe box for people’s visiting.
