The temperature of the Mt. Huangshan Hot Spring remains at about 42℃ all year round. The water is limpid and tastes sweet, good for both bathing and drinking. It is located at the foot of Purple Cloud Peak, besides Hot Spring Stream, about 650m above sea level, facing Peach Blossom Peak extending for miles on the opposite side. The spring has two outlets, one of which is led into a cistern where the water is piped into the bathing chambers and the indoor swimming pool, while the other is deserted and has turned into a patch of sand. On the rock beside the spring are the inscriptions of “Famous spring of the world” carved in the Wanli Period of Ming Dynasty.
The legend says that Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan once had a bath in the spring and immediately the wrinkles were all gone and he became a youth again. Then the spring son its great fame as well as the honorable title “Efficacious Spring”.
