Ginseng is called Renshen in Chinese, for it has the shape of ren (human). It is a precious medicinal plant that can increase physical and mental efficiency, improve the accuracy of work by promoting concentration, boost metabolism, help regulate body functions and strengthen the functions that regulate other body functions. Polysaccharides in ginseng are strong immune system modulators, making us highly resistant to disease. That's why "ginseng" was given the botanical name Panax, from the Greek, meaning "all healing".
There are two types of ginseng which are considered to be the real herb, or root. Panax ginseng, grown in Asia, has a warming effect on the body and is more potent ,and it is either white or red. The other, Panax Quinquefolius, is grown in North America, which has a cooling effect on the body. Jilin ginseng, grown in Changbai Mountains of China is considered to be some of the finest cultivated Panax ginseng in the world.  China is the earliest country in the world that discovered, applied, cultivated and processed ginseng for medical purposes.
