Chinese greeting

Chinese, like all languages, has its own set of unique greetings which may be seemingly strange to foreigners. This is particularly true if the two cultures are vastly differentIn western world, we will say “ hello /hi/how are you?/ good morning/how do you do” etc.  but Chinese seldom use those words. We will ask” did you have your meal?” When we came across a person we know at lunch or supper time,” then the person will make a positive answer. Or we ask “ where are you going?”, then he or she will make a random answer.
In china if a Chinese man ask you “where are you going? Try to interpret that question as a common greeting. Trust me; he/she doesn’t intend to know your privacy. Even they don’t mean to invite you to dinner when they ask “did you have your meal”. That’s the way Chinese “say hello” to others.
We have different greetings on different holidays just as foreigners do. But it seems that Chinese people like congratulations for getting rich. For example: Many many fortunes find their way to you! May you come into a good fortune! Live long and prosper!
