In the south of China , there developed bamboo weaves for daily use and ornaments with local colours, such as the comfortable mat of Anhui Province, the bamboo -strip fan of Sichuan Province. The weaving of bamboo strips goes through a process of removing, cutting, scraping, polishing and knotting the strips.
Shucheng, Anhui Province, is abound in bamboos, among which the water bamboo can be processed into cooling mat. The water- bamboo is divided into two types: the bamboo with small leaves and that with big leaves, of which the former is better. The characteristics of small -leave type are: less joints, fine and soft texture, and it can be cut into thin strips. The cooling mat made of its strips is soft and smooth , cool and spend hotness. It can be rolled into a small scroll and easy to carry here and there.
