Beijing, had long been a capital city . In Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Beijing served as the heart of China, despite its different name of Yanjing. Until today, it is still the political and cutural center of People's Republic of China.
Xi'an, the pivot of Shaanxi province,was the capital of Sui and Tang Dynasties. The capital of Qin dynasty, Xianyang, is approximate to Xi'an, so there exacavated the worldknown Terror-cotta Warriers and Horses of Qin.
Nanjing,the capital of China's Jiangsu Province , had served as the capital of China during
six historical periods. Apart from having been the capital of China for six dynasties and of the Republic of China, Nanjing has also served as a national hub of education, research, transportation and tourism throughout history.
Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, was the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty from the early 12th century until the Mongol invasion of 1276, and was known as Lin'an. It served as the seat of the imperial government, a center of trade and entertainment, and the nexus of the main branches of the civil service. Numerous philosophers, politicians, and men of literature, including some of the most celebrated poets in Chinese history such as Su Shi, Lu You , and Xin Qiji came here to live and die.
Luoyang, a city in Henan province, was constructed by the Duke of Zhou (周公) in the 11th century BC and was thus named Chengzhou. It was the capital of the Zhou Dynasty, Eastern Han Dynasty, Wei Dynasty, Jin Dynasty and Northern Wei Dynasty.
Kaifeng, formerly known as Bianliang, is a prefecture-level city in eastern Henan province, was the capital of Song Dynasty. Kaifeng was flooded by the Ming army with water from Yellow River to prevent the peasant rebel Li Zicheng from taking over. After this disaster, the city was abandoned. Under the celebrated Qing emperor Kangxi (1662), Kaifeng was rebuilt. However, another flooding occurred in 1841, followed by another reconstruction in 1843, which produced the contemporary Kaifeng as we know it.
