Tiananmen Square is the largest downtown square in the world. It covers an area of 44 hectares, big enough to hold one million people. From the red wall of the Tian'anmen Rostrum in the north to the south gate, it measures some 880 meters, and from the Museum of Chinese Revolution and Chinese History in the east to the Great Hall of the People in the west, it is about 500 meters. In the middle,it’s the Monument to the People’s Hreoes.South of it ,it’s Chairman Mao Memorial Hall.To the east lies the Museum of Chinese History and th the Museum of Chinese Revolution.At the southern end of the square stands the Front Gate.
Tian'anmen square is named after its magnificent Tian’anmen Rostrum (Gate of Heavenly Peace), which was the first gate of the Imperial City.
Now Tiananmen Square is one of the most famous and popular places in China. It is the place for celebrations kinds of festivals .esp big ones such as Labor Day and National Day.  On that day , Tian'anmen square bacome the sea of happiness。During the accasion,there are flowers,trees,foutains,flags and banners everywhere in the square.That evening, fireworks light up the sky as thousands of people take part in a song and dance gala in the square to celebrate the anniversary.Many tourists to Tian’anmen Square like to have there pictures taken.
