The ancient Dongzha street is 2 kilometres long. Most of the residents have built water pavilion beside the river at back of their houses. Every Family has stone piers. There are Guanxiang shantang Medicine Shop, Hundreds of Beds Shop of South China, Wood Carving Shop, Pickling Mill, Fangluge Teahouse, and Huiyuan Pawnshop, etc along the street.
The residence of Mr. MaoDun—the great modern writer is the most attractive place to people.
同里: Apart from being endowed with a unique charming vista peculiar to the water township in Southern China,Tongli is rich in both cultural relics and traditional architectures.
Being a pictoresque and elegant town, it has become world-known for its having wonderful scenery, classic building and precious relics.
The proper of this town is divided into seven blocks by fifteen streams. However, they have been combined into a complete whole by 49 bridges in different shape. With their dwellings built beside the stream, the locals all enjoy the convenience to travel by boat. In such a case, Tongli is acclaimed as one of the well-preserved ancient towns with water scenery.
周庄: Wu Guanzhong, the famous modern Chinese painter, has commented in his articles that the Yellow Mountain has all the charm of the rivers and mountains of China, while Zhouzhuang Town boasts all the beautiful features of a Chinese waterside town. Zhouzhuang was even bestowed the title of number one waterside town in China by overseas press.
凤凰:Surrounded by mountains and rivers, Phoenix Town is located in the western part of Central China's Hunan Province, south of the Tujia and Miao prefectures.
Upon entering the town, visitors will be impressed by its air of mystery, elegance, and primitive simplicity, just like a phoenix.
It is a world that is dominated by the color green. The mountain slopes are covered with green foliage, the fields are green, and even the Tuo Jiang River reflects the greenery.
The image of those stilted houses built on the high riverbank and the green mountains behind them reflecting in the limpid wave of the Tuo Jiang shows a harmony of the ancient city.
丽江 :The town, screened by a mountain and facing a river, has no high walls. It is crisscrossed with ancient streets and lanes paved with colored stones and lined with residential houses of wood-stone-mud structure characterized by pretty, simple and practical styles. Small streams run parallel with Sifang Street in the center of the town and many other lanes. Green trees shade the houses and lanes. Willow tree branches hang low to caress the water in the streams. Residential houses either stand against a stream or have in the front small bridges across streams. In some cases, a stream runs right underneath houses.
