Marco Polo visited Suzhou in 1276, described it as 'great' and 'noble'. By the 14th century, Suzhou was China’s leading silk producer. The wealthy inhabitants in this time built many gardens, of which over 100 survive. Many of them are already listed as a world cultural heritage by the UNESCO.
Suzhou is a historical city in China. Some people call here the ¨East Venice〃 because of the rivers, the bridges and the condition of the people who live here. Suzhou Garden is the symbol of the buildings in Jianghan. Itˇs famous for its lakes, hills and the gardens. The traditional specialties are jasmine tea, Su-taste cakes, sandal fans, Song brocade, lacquer ware, embroidery and drawn work.
