A plane will bring you from Beijing, the capital of China, to Urumqi, the capital of the autonomous province Xinjiang in the northwest of the country. After a sightseeing tour through this modern city you will be driven to the Tianchi Lake, located half way to Bogda Shan.. This lake in midst of this mountainous region is placed in about 2000 m elevation and covers an area of 4.9 square kilometres. It is surrounded by pine trees and grassland that is dotted with white yurts - the traditional felt houses of the Kazakh. You certainly will enjoy the beautiful scenery of this wild countryside. In the company of Kazakh people and their horses carrying our luggage, we will slowly walk uphill towards the snow-capped mountains. The Bogda Peak is the third highest summit of the Tian Shan mountain chain and 5445m above sea level. We will trek around Bogda for about five days, walking five to six hours daily, passing purple rock hills, icy mountain lakes and glittering glaciers and will camp on green pastures at night. Then we will head back to the Tianchi Lake and stay overnight in yurts again enjoying every day life of the Kazakh. We might even see Kazakh women making their delicious cheese and milk tea.
