Leave Beijing to Datong by train, to visit Yungang Grottos and Hengshan Mountain first. Yungang Grottos, is one of three famous grottos in China, built about 1,500 years ago, with 53 grottos and more than 51,000 stone statues remained. Hengshan Mountain, is in the south and 62km away from Datong city. It is one of the Five Mountains in China, also called “North Mountain”, and famous for Taoism. Then go southward to Wutaishan Mountains, one of the four famous mountains of Buddhism in China, the highest peak is 3058m above sea level. Trek on five main peaks two or three days, enjoying the beautiful landscape of the mountains. By train go northward to Baotou via Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Have a visit to Wudangzhao Monastery, located in a valley in the middle of Yinshan Mountains. It was built in Qing Dynasty as a Lama monastery for Yellow Sect, now is the only well-kept one in Inner Mongolia. Leaving Wudangzhao, we start trekking on the pasture land of Inner Mongolia two or three days, staying overnight in yurts of nomad people and experiencing their peculiar style of life. At last back to Beijing.
