The River Yangtze, also called the Chang Jiang, is the longest river in China and Asia and the third longest in the world after the Amazon in South America and the Nile in Africa. The river has over 700 tributaries but the principal tributaries are the Hun, Yalong, Jialing, Min, Tuo Jiang, and Wu Jiang. The climate ranges from 96 degrees in the summer to cold, brisk temperatures in the winter. Precipitation is high due to the height of the mountains. It has its source high in the snow-capped mountains of western China. But which river is the source of The River Yangtze is still uncertain.
According to a report delivered by Xinhua News Agency On January 13th, 1978, among the five rivers in source area of Yangtze River, the Trotuo River is judged as the source river for it has the longest length among them.
But, in 1978, the source river should be Danqu for Dangqu is longer than Tuotuo River, according a drift exploring inspection carried by Chinese official.
However, some scientists insist on that the Tuotuo River is the source of The River Yangtze. Which one is the real source, Tuotuo or Dangqu? Maybe there will be an answer for it in the future.
